Great Barrington, Massachusetts
Registered Landscape Architect
Interior Designer · Founder, Wingate Ltd.
From Boston's urban landscapes to the Berkshires — forty years shaping how people live in their homes. Landscape architecture, interior design, custom furnishings — Valerie works across all three because good design doesn't stop at the front door.
"In nearly every space, I aim to create balance and flow; a design that draws you in. This is my passion: I'm inspired to create environments that are lifestyle-friendly, inviting, and restorative, that suit the unique characteristics of each client."
Valerie Winig is the founder and principal of Wingate Ltd., an interior design and home furnishings showroom in Great Barrington, MA. A registered Landscape Architect by trade, she bases her design sensibilities on moving through space from an outdoor/indoor perspective — asking questions like: How does the architecture influence the setting? Is there a strong sense of arrival? How can the interior become contextual to the architecture with which it is connected?
Valerie's background spans many years in Boston and Cambridge as a Landscape Architect working alongside prestigious architects, engineers, interior designers, and real estate developers on urban and suburban projects throughout New England. After returning to the Berkshires in 1990, she became a partner at Twin Fires of Sheffield — where she developed her interior and furniture design skills through frequent travel to England, Ireland, and France to acquire special finds for clients.
In 1999, Valerie established Wingate Ltd. at the historic Jennifer House Commons in Great Barrington — the "gateway to the Berkshires" — where the firm has grown into a design-build studio with a 15,000 sq ft showroom and in-house cabinetry workshop.
